Term 3 Week 4

Class four have been VERY busy this week!  We started the week getting organised for our much awaited Viking Feast.  We had plenty of things to sort for Tuesday night.  Miss Baker took us in groups to bake oatcakes.  We had to weigh out all the ingredients then carefully roll it flat.

Once the mix was flat we had to cut out circle shapes using a cutter.  Then we placed them on a tray to go in the oven.

Next was buttering the bannocks and oatcakes.  We had to make sure we washed our hands really carefully before preparing the food.

Once we had finished buttering everything we placed it neatly on a tray so that it looked well presented.

Then on Tuesday afternoon it was off to the hall to set up.  We helped Donald to move benches, tables and chairs.  Then we put our decorations on the walls.

We set the tables using napkins, paper plates and plastic spoons.  Then we placed our menus and table decorations on the tables to make them look nice.

We prepared our learning tables which showed our runes, Viking longhouses and our St Magnus storyboards for our parents to see.

The hall was finally ready...

Then it was time for the feast to begin!!  Aly came over to be our Viking Guizer.  He helped lead us into the hall so that our grown ups could see our hand made costumes.

Then we joined our grown ups to enjoy our Viking Feast.

Once people had finished eating we took our grown ups around the hall to share our learning.  We showed them our St Magnus storyboards, our runic writing plaques, Viking longhouses and our Viking people.   We really enjoyed showing our parents our learning.

After we had finished sharing our learning we jumped on board our Viking longship and performed two songs we had been practicing.

Once we had finished our songs we headed outside where Mark was ready to burn our longship for us.  We said farewell to our mighty ship!!

Class four would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who helped in anyway to allow our feast to take place.  Special thanks to the grown ups for coming along to help enjoy our feast and share our learning with us.

When we arrived back in school on Wednesday morning we carried out a review of our learning from the Vikings topic.  We were very surprised at the amount of learning we had actually done throughout the topic.

"We learnt a lot by just having fun!"

We ended the week by beginning to think about our new topic...Space and Animations.  We thought about what we knew already and what we would like to learn.  We put all our questions in a list which we are going to link to the curriculum.  We are very excited to get started on our new topic.
