Term 4 Weeks 3 - 5

Class four enjoyed an exciting visit from 'The Space Base'.  The space base is an inflatable planetarium.

Once inside the planetarium we learnt about the night sky.  We were able to impress the visitors with some of our knowledge from our space topic.

We learnt about the different planets in our solar system and discussed the different temperatures and environments each planet had.

We learnt about different stars that make constellations in our sky.

It was really exciting to be in a planetarium for the morning!!

Class four have been busy enjoying the lovely weather this week.  We begun our minibeasts topic by going out to their natural habitat to explore.

We found the minibeast hotel that last years class 4 had made.  We noticed that a lot of minibeasts had made it their home.

We looked under rocks and leaves...

and found lots of different creatures!

The next day we went outside to the natural habitat again, but this time, we took clipboards to record our findings.  Some of us made tally charts to record the different types of minibeasts we had found.  Whilst others drew some detailed drawings of minibeasts.

We enjoyed looking closely at their details through magnifying glasses.

We observed their behaviour closely.

Then we made sure we carefully put the minibeasts back where we had found them.

We also celebrated our learning this week by holding an Animations Premiere.  We enjoyed watching a DVD of our finished animations.

We celebrated with posh champagne (lemonade!) and some lovely treats.  We voted for our favourite scene, editing/title skills, character, song, and overall animation. We had medals and certificates for the winners of each award.

Overall, we really enjoyed the animations topic and are really happy and proud of our finished animations.

Term 4 Week 1

Class four took advantage of the nice weather this week by taking chalk and shaving foam outside to practice our spelling words.

It was a little bit breezy and messy but great fun!!

We were lucky enough to get a visit from the Coastguard on Wednesday afternoon.  Ron and Ian from the Coastguard came to tell us how to stay safe at the water and what to do if we did find an emergency situation.  We were shown around the special Coastguard vehicle and shown what various parts of the vehicle are used for.

We were then able to put on some of the Coastguard uniforms to take part in a 'story'.  Two of our friends were stuck on a rock when the tide came in at the beach.  We had to work as a team to rescue them safely without injuring ourselves.

We then swapped over so the other group could have a turn too.

Meanwhile, the other group were inside with Ian learning what to do if we came across an emergency.  We learnt about things we can do to be safe during bag the bruck and we were shown things we should be careful with if we find them at the beach.   We also learnt the phonetic alphabet which is used by the Coastguard to help communicate with other people.

We have spent our topic time this week using technology.  We have begun taking 'stills' (photos) of our scenes which will eventually be made into our animations using a computer programme.  We are looking forward to finishing our animations over the next week and plan to have an animations premier shortly.
