Week 1 - 3 Term Two

(After a very hectic first few weeks I have finally manged to get photos on the blog again.  Sorry there has been a few technical blips!)

Class four started the term by thinking about measurement.  We thought about the relationship between cm and m.  We then took various pieces of equipment for measuring length outside.  We searched for various items with certain lengths and then we had to measure certain items.

We then celebrated Guy Fawkes by writing a piece of poetry about the things we see and hear on bonfire night.  After we had written some really good poems with adjectives and bits of alliteration we then decided to make some fireworks using junk materials.

Last term class four had been busy making touch and feel books.  During the first week back we went through to class one to share our learning on the senses.

We read our touch and feel books to them and they enjoyed feeling the different textures and discussing them.

Here we are with our finished fireworks!

During week two we have been learning about Carroll diagrams and different ways to show information.

It wasn't always as easy as we thought, especially when some things could actually go in two different categories.

We have been enjoying starting our Vikings topic. We have found out about where the Vikings came from and have also made some posters displaying important dates in Viking history.  We made posters to display this information then added it into our own timeline.

On Tuesday we were very lucky to have a visit from Sandra Miller one of the Rangers from Historic Scotland.  Sandra took her box of Viking artefacts to show us.  We really enjoyed learning about the Vikings from her stories and exploring the artefacts was great fun too.

We have continued our Vikings topic by learning about Saint Magnus.  We are enjoying learning the story of St Magnus and how he was very different to ordinary Vikings.

We are now planning to make a Viking Museum in our classroom using the artefacts.  We have been finding out about each object, taking photos of them and comparing them to objects we would use today.

Our finished Viking pictures in our class timelines.  As you can see the Viking age took place a long time ago and took up quite a lot of years in history!

In games with Lorna we have been working on ball skills.  We have been thinking about or throwing and catching skills along with some team games.
