Symmetrical wings of a Butterfly

Class four have been working on symmetry this week.  As a special minibeast has symmetrical wings we decided to make a symmetrical butterfly with a difference!
We used pens, craft items and lego to create our own symmetrical wings of a butterfly.
It wasn't as easy as we thought it might be to find the pieces we needed to make it symmetrical!!
We hope you enjoyed looking at our symmetrical butterfly wings.

Minibeast code

Class Four have been busy thinking about minibeasts habitats and how to protect them.  In groups they mind mapped ideas as to how to keep minibeasts safe.
They then gathered all their ideas together to come up with 7 rules which they could use as minibeast code.
Once they had come up with the code they worked in their groups to make posters which can be laminated and fixed in various parts of the school grounds to encourage people to look after minibeasts and their habitats.

The Lifecycle Of A Butterfly

Class Four read the Eric Carle classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar then worked hard to show a detailed diagram of the lifecycle of a butterfly.  We used rice to show the butterflies eggs, then different shapes of pasta to show the caterpillar, the chrysalis and the butterfly.
We have been closely observing the growth of our own caterpillars in class.  They started of very small but have quickly become much larger after eating their food.
We also have some other friends in class! We were given some tadpoles which we are now carefully monitoring to see their growth.

Detailed drawings of minibeasts

We looked in detail at pictures of minibeasts. We then made detailed drawings of them for our wall display.
We found out which invertebrate group each minibeast would fit in.

A minibeast hunt!

Class four have been out exploring the school grounds looking for minibeasts this week. We found a lot of litter which we decided was not good for minibeasts habitat so we decided to clear it up.
We found lots of creatures including slaters, worms, beetles and spiders.

Beginning our Conservation, Area and Minibeast Topic

We planned our topic by thinking about what we knew already and what we wanted to find out.

The Moon

Class four finished off our space topic by learning about the phases of the moon.
We used Oreo cookies to help us show the various phases of the moon.
