Term 3 Week 12

This week class four have been learning about the Easter story.  We learnt about the reason we celebrate Easter and why we have chocolate eggs.

We then made our own Easter storyboards in the style of a comic strip.

We linked our learning from two different curriculum areas this week - learning about space and money at the same time.  We were sent forward to 2050 when man lived on the moon!  We were given a budget and had to work in groups to design and create our own lunar theme park.

The budget we were given was £1000!  It wasn't as straight forward as we first thought as we had to use some of our problem solving strategies to make sure we didn't go over our budget.

Once we had planned our lunar theme park we then had to think about running costs and whether or not it would be cost effective to run our theme park.  We are currently in the middle of making our plans a reality using various materials within the classroom and hope to have this finished tomorrow.

We have also been really busy trying to finish off our scenes, characters and props for our animations.  We worked hard to make any characters we needed using the techniques we learnt for when we use plastecine.

We used junk materials to create props for our scenes.

Each group has now finished their scene, characters and props,  We plan to complete the technology side of our animations when we come back after the holidays.

Term 3 Week 11

Class Four have had another busy week.  We begun the week by thinking about important dates and events in space history.  We made posters to add to our class timeline so that we could see when these events had happened in history.

We found out about the first animals in space, the first people in space and the first people to walk on the moon.  We also researched events which are happening in the present, for example, the shuttle which has just this week headed off on a 7 month journey to Mars!

After making our plastecine slugs last week we have been busy thinking about our own animations.  We have begun making the set for our animations.  We had to think carefully about background detail and ensure we worked effectively in a group.

Class four were lucky enough to have a visit from some special guests on Wednesday morning.  The author of the Badger the Mystical Mutt series Laura Jackson came to tell us about her series of books.  She brought along a special guest called Badger who was a little bit mischievous at times!

Badger is known for his magic tricks, so he decided to show us some of his best ones!!

Then Laura read to us from the first book.  She was very animated and we really enjoyed listening to her reading the story.

Badger played some tricks on some people next!  He then showed us another magic trick before we were able to ask some questions.

We really enjoyed our visit, thank you :)

Our animation scenes are very nearly finished...we hope to get these finished this week so that we can work on props and characters next week.

Term 3 week 10

Sorry the Blog has not been updated for a few weeks and thank you for your patience while I have been off sick.

Class four have had a busy week.  We took our learning outdoors so we could enjoy the glorious sunshine.  We took out some chalk to practice our spelling words in the playground.

We have also spent time this week learning about the night sky.  We researched some of the different constellations we could see when we looked up at the night sky.   We also learnt about our zodiac signs.  Each zodiac sign is meant to say something about our personality; we didn't agree with everything they said! Some were more truthful than others!

We used a compass to make a picture of a constellation of our choice.  Once they are finished we plan to display them in our window so that the stars shine through.

We have also spent time thinking about the animations side of our topic this week.  We begun this by watching parts of the animated movie Flushed Away.  We took note of any ideas we had while watching the movie and discussed the different techniques the creators had used to make the animation.  Then, with help and instructions from the creators of Flushed Away, we were able to have a go at making our own slugs from the movie.  It was great fun but hard work to make sure we used the best techniques we could.  We ensured we helped each other while we were making the slugs so that everyone had a finished slug at the end.

We've kept our finished slugs 'top secret' at the moment...but you will be able to see them next week at parents evening!

Class four have also been busy over the past few weeks learning about the different planets of the solar system.  We worked in groups to make information posters displaying information about each of the planets.  We then hung them from our roof to make a display.

Mrs Hay helped us to make some rocket pictures to go along with our rocket poems.  We used square paper and had to make sure they were symmetrical,

Mrs Hay also helped us to research information about the sun.  We found out some fun facts which we then made into leaflets and posters.

In order to remember the order of the planets from the Sun we made up mnemonics.  We will have these on display at parents evening so you can see them a bit easier.
