Our senses - Touch

Class four have been learning about our senses. We have been working on touch this week so we decided to explore different textures of materials. We are now working in groups to design a book for pre school aged children which will have different textures and things for them to touch inside.  Watch this space for our finished books!

A Working Lung

Class four have been busy learning about the human lungs. We followed a set of instructions carefully which allowed us to make our own working lung.  It was a bit tricky but we helped each other to put the finishing touches together.  Once we had made them we discussed all the uses of the lung and how they work within our bodies.

Gangsta granny

Class four have been thoroughly enjoying reading Gangsta Granny by David Walliams as our class novel. We worked in groups to design posters telling people about the novel.  Some of us have chosen to use our independent study time to make some puppets from the novel. Were hoping they will put on a puppet show for the rest of the class.

Our finished skeletons

Class four have been busy adding the finishing touches to our skeletons! We managed to add in various organs too!!

Heatbeat challenge

Class 4 have been learning about the human heart. We researched how it worked and discussed the important jobs the heart has to do.  We then took our resting pulses before heading outside to take part in some exercises! We did some running, jumping and walking.  Then we took our pulse for one minute to see if it was different after different exercises. We found out that the faster your body is moving the faster your heart beats as it has to pump more blood round our bodies.

Sound experiments

Class 4 had a great afternoon today carrying out sound experiments.  We used various methods to test and learn about how the human ears work. We worked in groups with a time keeper and a manager to ensure everyone kept on task and we each had a turn at every experiment.  We learnt that sound works by sending vibrations or waves through the air to the ear. Its all very clever!! We really enjoyed being scientists today!

Class 4 Characteristics Graph

Class 4 did some research to find out about the different characteristics in the class.  We looked at eye colour, hair colour, hair length and whether our hair was curly, straight, short or long. We then used the information to make a giant graph on our classroom window.

Baby face challenge

Class four completed a baby face challenge!! We took in baby photos which we then had to match up to photos of us now!! We looked at our facial features for clues but it wasn't as easy as it looked!!

K'Nex Challenge

On Friday afternoon class 4 took part in a critical skills style challenge.  They each had important jobs to do.  They had to design a bridge which was at least 30cm long, at least 15cm high and was able to fit a toy car.  Class 4 worked very hard in their groups to complete the challenge.  They made sure there was lots of good discussions so everyone knew what they needed to do and most of all to make sure everyone was working together.  They did very well with each group managing to successfully build a bridge using the materials given.

Dinosuar Maths

Class 4 were very interested to learn that a new dinosaur fossil had been discovered on Friday.  We set off outside to mark out how long he was from head to toe...26 metres!! We then worked out that he would be the same weight as approximately 2300 children of the same size...60 tonnes!!
